The modern bath is more than a place to bathe and groom. Bathrooms have become a retreat from the stresses of the mundane. For many, the bath is the only place one can enjoy a few hours of private time. Baths are now designed with the comforts and therapeutic benefits of a spa.

Luxuriating in the bubble bath with the sensual scent and glow of aromatherapy candles is the new indulgent pastime. Imagine stepping out of the bath onto a soothing, warm tile floor, then reaching up and grabbing a cozy, heated towel from its rack.

That dreaded job of cleaning the toilet. We all hate doing it, but it has to be done. Having had a cleaning business for 25 years I’ve got it down to a science. With my proven method the nasty task of cleaning the toilet can be mastered efficiently and quickly.

8 Tips for a Shiny, Sanitary, and Pleasant Smelling Toilet

1. Start by spraying the bowl (be sure to get up under the rim), behind the seat and around the bottom with the cleaner of choice. Spray sparingly around the bottom and the back, you do not want to make a huge mess. You just want enough to dampen the soiled area.

An inexpensive and sanitizing cleaner that works great is White Vinegar. There are several good toilet bowl cleaners, however, I have found that the White Vinegar cleans exceptionally well, kills the mold and leaves the toilet fresh smelling. A mix of 50/50 with water is quite efficient. You can spray bowl with full strength if needed.

How many ‘m’s’ can you find in “Asian lady beetle?” Well, believe it or not, the correct answer is one… but where is it? It’s on their back. On the back of a bug that looks remarkably similar to a lady bug, but isn’t. Not that it’s all so sinister though. These critters, in their usual outdoor habitat are considered beneficial insects because they feed on aphids and scales. However, they may not be regarded quite so warmly by the homeowner who finds he has hundreds or even thousands of them packing themselves away in the cracks of his walls for the winter. Here they enter their diapause cycle, kind of a hibernation phase for insects. The Asian lady beetle is most attracted to brightly painted or southerly-facing walls and if one decides that your home would make a nice winter get-away, it will send out a chemical signal inviting all its friends to come too. Perhaps all the occupants of the house, humans, dogs, cats, fish, gerbils, what have you, and Asian lady beetles could live together in peace and harmony for the winter. The more the merrier, right? That might be just fine if not for the warmer days of winter when these bugs like to get out for a stretch, flying around near lights, staining furniture and walls with a foul-smelling chemical they emit when disturbed and pinching bare human skin (they do not bite.)

The clothes closet is one of the least respected areas in the house. It’s often stuffed from floor to ceiling with clothing, briefcases, purses and shoes. Valuable clothing rod space has been taken over by vast armies of mis-matched hangers. Books and magazines have managed to somehow sprout out of nowhere. Bed linens are mixed in with towels, umbrellas and shoes. You can barely see the floor. Before you know it, your closet has become clutter central!

Here’s some friendly advice. Heed the old saying, “Less is more.” You’ll save an enormous amount of time, money and stress by thinning out your huge wardrobe.

Cleaning professionally, I’ve learned that Lemon Oil furniture polish has many household usages.

Lemon Oil is excellent for protecting your low luster furniture. The oil leaves a beautiful shine, and prevents fine wood finishes from drying out

Choose a brand of lemon oil that does not contain waxes, silicones, or harmful solvents. Several of the popular brands have a sunscreen to keep your furniture from fading.

Don’t put oil directly on furniture. Pour a small amount of oil on a soft, non-abrasive cloth (old t-shirts are great) and apply to the surface. Avoid using lemon oil on high gloss veneers.

Around the house, lemon oil is invaluable. An oil treated cloth will quickly wipe away tarnish on silver and brass and great to remove greasy fingerprints off the microwave door.
