…all things on a woman’s mind
By Sophia S.
Magazine publishers offer free year long subscriptions to several of their magazines in order to increase readership or introduce a new magazine. As a freelancer, I was interested in receiving a wide variety of magazines for as little cost as possible in order to study the content. I found several websites that offered the best deal, FREE magazine subscriptions.
I currently have over 40 free magazine subscriptions, 10 digital subscriptions, and I receive offers for more weekly. If you are looking for magazine subscriptions for work, to give as gifts, just because you don’t want to pay, or to get back at the mailman read on.
Some of my favorite free magazine subscriptions:
Spin, Latina, In Style Weddings, Times, Travel + Leisure, Travel + Leisure Golf, Fitness, Shape, Golf for Women, Tennis, Hollywood Life, Interview, Reader’s Digest, Vibe Vixen, Islands, Caribbean Travel and Life, Boating Life, Tango, National Geographic Adventure, Beads, Lucky, Redbook, Glamour, Elle
Most of the free magazine subscriptions are year long subscriptions, but others like Latina, Time, and Shape are 2-3 year subscriptions. If you receive an offer for the same subscription from another company you can take advantage of the offer and an additional year will be added to your existing subscription.
Free Business Magazine Websites
Mercury Magazines
Mercury Magazines provides free business magazine subscriptions. To get your free magazines you will need to fill out the profile the website provides and it will match up your info to several magazine subscriptions at that point. Free magazines constantly become available and you are emailed with the opportunity to take advantage of the subscription. I have been emailed with offers for National Geographic, Times, Boating Life and Travel and Leisure from Mercury Magazines.
When you get email notifications check them as soon as possible because most of the time supplies are limited and are exhausted within a day or two.
Free Biz Magazines
Free Biz Magazines is another great website offering free subscriptions once you have filled out a profile. They do have other magazines that you can get for discounted prices but you can skip all those options and submit your profile. As free magazine subscriptions become available you will be emailed and have the chance to accept or decline each subscription.
From free biz magazine I have received Latina, Travel and Leisure Golf, Spin, Tango, Tennis, Shape, Fitness, Glamour, Lucky, and others.
All Free Magazines
At all free magazines you do not need to fill out a business profile only join their email list and you will be sent notifications as subscriptions are available. I have received several emails for smaller undiscovered and new magazines and newsletters. Notifications for larger mainstream magazines are less frequent but they do become available.
From All Free Magazines I have received Reader’s Digest, In Style Weddings, Popular Mechanics, Hollywood Life, Interview, Beads and others.
Start Sampling
Start Sampling is an online website that makes samples from various retailers available to the public. Occasionally Start Sampling offers free magazine subscriptions. To take advantage of any offers you need to register with the site and sort through their offers which will all be displayed on your home page. I never have received an email for any offers from Start Sampling, so I check in on the site every two weeks to look for magazine subscriptions.
From Start Sampling I have received a second year of Fitness, Vibe Vixen, Coastal Living and Islands
Magatopia
Magatopia is a great site to use when you are just looking for a specific article or missed an edition of your favorite magazine. Magatopia provides free access to over one thousand free online magazines and their current articles. Almost every major magazine is included in the selection and new ones are added all the time.
I like to use this site for magazines that I would only read seasonally like Organic Gardening, Opera and others. Best part is, it cuts down on paper since it is all digital.
Zinio
Zinio offers free digital subscriptions that are sent directly to your email and available for a limited time or for a full year depending on the publication. Like Mercury Magazines and Free Biz you will need to fill out a short profile and offers will be emailed to you as they become available. All you need to do then is wait for them to pop up in your inbox.
From Publishers Directly
It is also possible to get subscriptions directly from the publishers themselves or from organizations pushing the publication. Many times when a website or publisher is just starting a new magazine they will offer free subscriptions for a limited time. I visit magazine publishers websites regularly to see if they have any offers and just keep an eye out in general for opportunities. Here are some of my favorites that I have found recently.
Culture and Travel
Cuture and Travel is a relatively new website and magazine that is offering a year long subscription (6 issues). The magazine has some of the best travel and culture articles in the industry and incredible photography. I always keep the latest edition on the coffee table, and end up telling everyone how to get their own when they ask about it.
Batanga
Batanga is an online website dedicated to Latin Music and Culture. The website just started a publication and has made a 6 issue subscription available to the public. You just need to provide your mailing address on their website to take advantage of the offer.
Beneful
Dog’s Life is another publication that I just stumbled across while surfing for info on dog food and health. The magazine is made available from the beneful brand for a year long subscription.
Play Golf America
The website Play Golf America offers a year long subscription of Golf For Women till they exhaust supplies. I found out about this offer at a local golf course this past summer and the offer is still good.
Not Quite Free
My Price Magazines
If you don’t feel like waiting till your favorite magazine becomes available then My Price Magazine offers a great alternative, name your own price. Log onto the website, locate the magazine you want to receive and make an offer to the publisher through their system. You will be sent an email from My Price letting you know if your offer has been accepted or rejected. I recently got a year of National Geographic through them for eight dollars, but the same offer on O Magazine was declined.
